Hal Forrest pencils, inks and signed; 03/16/30; image size 22" x 28.25"Tailspin Tommy was the first comic strip to cash in on America's obsession with aviation in the early part of the 20th century, thanks in no small part to the fervor surrounding Charles Lindbergh, many other heroic flyers would follow in the funny pages and comic books but Tailspin Tommy was the first, and many consider the best, of the airborne heroes to make a mark on comic readers.
This entry in the series shows Tommy meeting one of his idols, Inspector McDowall of the RCMP who hires the pilot to ferry him to his ranch in the Canadian wilderness. The lush, flowing penmanship of Hal Forrest is on display on this engaging strip, which is a large piece of art, that has been hand painted with brilliant watercolors and was signed by Forrest.
