X-Men #18 finds the mutants still trapped in Magneto's deadly hot-air balloon from the previous issue, and their nemesis back at their mansion preparing to clone himself. Meanwhile, Iceman has awakened from his comatose state, and heads home to deal with Magneto. The X-Men eventually devise a method to escape from their deathtrap, and they return to their base where the confront Magneto, who runs away after Professor X summons the Stranger to come and collect his metal-manipulating escapee. This issue finds Jack Kirby passing the pencilling torch to Jay Gavin complimented by the dependable inks of Dick Ayers
