classic Moldoff Flash bondage coverFlash Comics boasted some of the most distinctive and finely drawn hero covers of the Golden Age, thanks to the skill of artists such as Sheldon Moldoff. His malleable style worked well both for children's cartoon-animal comics and action-packed hero books, and here his fine line and deft sense of drama help create an exciting and eye-catching cover image. Note especially the heft implied by the blacks spotted throughout the water, the motion conveyed by the incoming rush through the grating, and also the sense of urgency created by the Flash's motion lines and forceful pen strokes. A wonderful cover from a true master.
Artist Information
Moldoff is best known for his early work on DC's Hawkman and Hawkgirl, and was one of Bob Kane's primary "ghost artists" on Batman. He co-created the Batman villains Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, the second Clayface, and Bat-Mite, as well as the original heroes Bat-Girl, Batwoman, and Ace the Bat-Hound.
