DESCRIPTION
Alex Ross painted Red Goblin cover; 2018; image size 12.25" x 18.5"
Human Torch, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Silk, Clash, Anti-Venom & Red Goblin app
It’s a rare thing to grasp when we stand at the very beginning of something potentially significant. Hindsight is typically the mother of regret in most instances. It is possible that such an instance has manifested itself at this time, in this auction, with this book.

This book presents an extremely rare opportunity to acquire one of the highest graded examples of the Alex Ross Amazing Spider-Man #799 Red Goblin cvr in an astounding CGC 9.9 grade. Only two 9.9 copies exist, backed up by nearly 750 9.8 copies floating around. This book shouldn't exist; impossibly, it can be yours.

Most importantly, this comic book features the first appearance of Normie Osborn as the Goblin Childe. Marvel Comics released Red Goblin #1 this month (2/23) starring the Goblin Childe (a character published almost six years ago in 2018). The character is a legacy character that blends such malevolent characters as the Green Goblin, Venom, and Carnage into a new entry of focus in the overall Spider-man legendary mythos.

Marvel is putting a spotlight on this character. When the character takes off, well then, acquiring this book at this time, at this grade, will be considered a no brainer in hindsight. Don't miss out on this rare opportunity at what could be the beginning of the rise of a new memorable noteworthy character.

This piece, the Red Goblin's first cover appearance, shows the villain standing over a group of defeated Spider-Men (including Miles Morales, Silk, Agent Anti-Venom, and Clash) in this striking cover by modern master Alex Ross. This is the last cover before Marvel's historic Amazing Spider-Man #800 and Ross' art is worthy of the occasion. Ross is one of his generation's most highly regarded artists, changing the way Superhero comics are approached by both readers and creators with such classics as "Marvels" and "Kingdom Come." Gouache on board. Art is in excellent condition.

Second image is a sample image of printed cover, copy of the book not included with the artwork.

Artist Information

Alex Ross is an American comic book writer/artist known primarily for his painted interiors, covers, and design work. He first became known with the 1994 miniseries Marvels, on which he collaborated with writer Kurt Busiek for Marvel Comics. He has since done a variety of projects for both Marvel and DC Comics, such as the 1996 miniseries Kingdom Come, which Ross co-wrote. Since then he has done covers and character designs for Busiek's series Astro City, and various projects for Dynamite Entertainment. His feature film work includes concept and narrative art for Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, and DVD packaging art for the M. Night Shyamalan film Unbreakable. He has done covers for TV Guide, promotional artwork for the Academy Awards, posters and packaging design for video games, and his renditions of superheroes have been merchandised as action figures. Ross' style has been said to exhibit "a Norman-Rockwell-meets-George-Pérez vibe", and has been praised for its realistic, human depictions of classic comic book characters. His rendering style, his attention to detail, and the perceived tendency of his characters to be depicted staring off into the distance in cover images has been satirized in Mad magazine.
