Pgs. 4, 5, 8 - 11; Don Heck pencils and inks; from the story "Trapped by the Red Barbarian"; art on each pg measures approx. 12.5" x 18.5"
This set of pages comes from the time period when the Marvel Universe was at its most fertile, with Stan Lee and his stable of amazing artists virtually exploding with the amazing new ideas that would turn the publisher into the powerhouse of pop culture that it is today. Original comic art from the birth of the Marvel Age is some of the most sought after in the collecting hobby, and pages from the earliest appearances of iconic characters are among the most valuable in the marketplace.

This collection of pages 4-9 from Tales of Suspense #42 represents half of the tale Trapped by the Red Barbarian, the fourth-ever appearance of Iron Man, drawn to classic perfection by the influential and underrated Don Heck. Check out the awesome transformation panels on page four, which shows Stark s famous attaché case containing the iconic suit for the first time. Page five s first panel bring the tragic events of 9/11 to mind, and may also feature the first assault with a ham in the history of comics. The Actor meets the Red Barbarian in pages 6 & 7, where the mimic shows the Cold War villain his ability to impersonate Tony Stark, a disguise he employs to infiltrate Stark Industries and uncover some of the secrets of Iron Man, particularly, his secret identity. On page 9 the Actor flies off in Stark s jet as he leaves his underlings behind to ambush the real Tony Stark.

A collection of continuous pages from a classic early Silver Age Marvel book is not an item that shows up on the market often, and these remarkable Don Heck panels are an important piece of Iron Man s history, and comic book history overall, and we expect to see a lot of attention focused on this impressive example of original comic art from the halcyon years of the House of Ideas.

Pg. 3 by Basil Wolverton; Very Rare! From the Spacehawks story "The Bullet Ship That Brought Vengeance From the Void" image size 13" x 19"
The name Basil Wolverton is one that brings certain impressions to the minds of comic book readers, typically disturbing images of misshapen creatures with grotesque bodies and bizarre faces, Wolverton was certainly an original and unique talent in the comic book industry. Described as a "Producer of Preposterous Pictures of Peculiar People who Prowl this Perplexing Planet," Basil has left an indelible mark on the history of comic art, most memorably for his work on Mad Magazine and his unsettling covers for Plop!, setting a standard that would be aped and admired by underground artists of the 60s and 70s as well as the independent comics of the 80s and 90s.

Before achieving cult stardom Wolverton worked steadily throughout the early days of the Golden Age where he would lend his sui generis style to the often pedestrian and amateur level art that would pad out anthology titles during the funny book explosion. There is no question that his work on this page from Target Comics v2 #11 shows an illustrator with an undeniable style all his own, fluid line work, cinematic framing, and a flair for drama are all on full display on this special piece. Golden Age Basil Wolverton art is not something one comes across often in this hobby, and we are confident that his devoted fanbase will duke it out over this amazing page at auction.

Gil Kane pencils, Vince Colletta inks; image size 10" x 16" Thor vs Pluto
"To Live Again! To Die Forever!" This powerful cover for Thor #201 is a tour de force by Marvel stalwart Gil Kane. Complemented by the ever-reliable inks of Vince Colletta, the cover depicts the Thunder God battling another mythological being, Pluto, and boy howdy is it doozy. This clash of immortals exhibits the seamless skill Kane employed for decades while hewing closely to Marvel's house style. Gil was one of those workhorse artists that helped to build the publisher into the powerhouse it is today. Cameos in this issue include Ego, Hela, Heimdall, Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg, Odin, and Sif, just to name a few, making this a real Bronze Age bonanza. Art from this era is on the rise as Gold and Silver Age covers begin to go up in value, now is the perfect time to start investing in BA pieces, especially since the MCU is mining the period for storylines and character arcs to use in upcoming projects.

Keith Pollard pencils, Chic Stone inks; image size 9.75" x 15"
This cover, penciled by the prolific and skilled hand of Keith Pollard and inked by Chic Stone, one of Marvel's most-reliable bullpen artists, is a true classic of the Bronze Age. The action-packed melee on the Rainbow Bridge leading to Asgard is a thrill to behold, one that was guaranteed to move copies of this venerable title. Thor has maintained his position of prominence in the Marvel Universe due to his epic adventures that span the cosmic realm as well as his inclusion in the Avengers' team exploits, making the Thunder God a popular property that has proven his staying power through the changing times of the industry. This awesome cover shows Thor battling a Destroyer that is inhabited by the spirit of his paramour, Sif, as her vulnerable body lays behind the two powerful foes while an avalanche of warriors descends upon the struggle from the golden realm of the gods. This exhilarating piece is sure to be a popular lot amongst Thor fans and Bronze Age art collectors alike.

Wood guillotine cvr
Tales from the Crypt was one of the hallmark titles put out by scandalous horror comics house EC that was responsible in no small part for the initiation of the Comics Code Authority and Congressional hearings about the damage comic books were doing to young, impressionable minds. It is evident from this Wally Wood illustration that there may have been something to this theory, as the gruesome and oftentimes violent imagery depicted on these covers still deliver a shock today. This guillotine cover is a classic of the series, which specialized in jolting readers with disturbing images that kept them rushing to newsstands to get their cheap thrills in the otherwise milquetoast 1950s
