Everett cvr/art; 1st app. Amazing-Man, Cat-Man, Iron Skull
Due to the often-confusing numbering systems employed in the Golden Age due to the constant retitling of comic books, Amazing-Man Comics #5 is actually the first issue of the title's run. The cover features a rather memorable Bill Everett cover piece, which shows John Aman, chained and shackled, underwater, using the only defensive weapon he has left, his teeth, as he bites into the neck of what seems to be a deadly cobra. Mixing equal parts Superman with Harry Houdini was a stroke of brilliance, as the magician/escape artist was the real-life superhero of the pre-comic's era, the person every red-blooded American boy wanted to emulate, before the Kryptonian hero came on the scene. Ushering in one of Centaur's most popular creations, this comic is considered an important entry into Golden Age hero mythology. One that serious collectors of GA books, or the rabid Centaur fans out there will be marking off on their wish list to be sure.
This 3.5 copy is in respectable condition, the colors are still striking, and the only real areas bearing any damage are the spine, and back cover. Considering the rarity and niche interest in this book, there is guaranteed to be strong competition over this copy at auction. A true cult classic!

Bill Everett "hand/submarine" cover; RARE, Rarer than #5 in fact (10/39)
The surrealistic design of this cover has left an impression on the minds of Golden Age fans, as it is one of those rare books that not everyone knows about, but leaves an indelible mark once seen. Possibly an influence on Alex Schomburg's equally disorienting wartime covers, the manipulation of size to create a sense of power and terror is the reason this book haunts the memories of comic fans as one of the earliest examples of the growing power of the art form, and the endless possibilities hinted at therein.
An incredibly rare book, Amazing-Man #6 is not only hard to find, particularly in good condition, but it is also extremely sought-after due to the iconic cover artwork. This restored copy is noticeably careworn but the power of that memorable cover still stands out in strong red tones. Incredibly hard to find in any grade, this book is sure to be a target for those savvy fans out there who have a real knowledge of the Golden Age, and the special treasures hidden away in those glorious halcyon days.

1st Nazi war cover on a comic! Everett cvr/art
Regarding the long-standing tradition in comic books known as Nazi punching, Amazing-Man Comics #9 may very well be the first example of this proud American pastime, before Cap cracked Hitler, John Aman got his fists dirty on this historical cover. Comics have been addressing all sorts of social and political issues for decades now, but at no time was the message more clear, and more direct than during the grisly days of WWII, the free world was hanging by a thread and, thanks to the brave folks in the comic book industry, Americans saw the threat in simple primary colors, laid out there as plain as day. This Bill Everett illustration was the start of something big, which had an impact on the hearts and minds of readers of these simple funny books, and maybe made a difference when it mattered.
The yellows, blues, and reds on this classic cover remain strong, making this restored copy impressive for its grade. When you combine the rarity, value and historical importance of this issue, there is no need to hesitate, fans of wartime comics will be lining up to bid on this patriotic time capsule.

Larson Copy
Highest Graded
Amazing Man was the brainchild of Bill Everett, who also created the Sub-Mariner and Daredevil for Marvel. The character was one of the most-popular heroes created by the eccentric Centaur Publications, and enjoyed a twenty-one issue run in the Golden Age. Granted the power to transform into a green mist, and having been trained to the height of physical perfection, Amazing Man aka John Aman battled the sinister Council of Seven, particularly his nemesis the Great Question, until the series ended in the early 40s. The cult hero would return in the 1990s in Malibu Comics, and later versions would appear in the Marvel Universe, Dynamite Entertainment, and Gallant Comics as the character had entered the public domain.
Hailing from the Larson pedigree, this copy of Amazing-Man Comics #20 is in extremely well-preserved condition, the book is solid, with a tight spine and strong color palette. The thrilling Lew Glanzman cover design is filled with madcap action, one almost doesn't know where to look first. One thing is for sure, this highest graded copy is going to laser focus bidder's attention come auction time.

classic WWII green Nazi ape-monster cover
The Jon Berk Collection
Based on a very sad yet true chapter of American history; The Green Nazi Ape-Monster Battles of 1941, the most legendary of all issues of Amazing-Man Comics is the wartime lunacy of issue #22, featuring cover art by Paul Gustavson. The comic is very nearly a textbook example of war-era propaganda, rife with Axis imagery, oversized menace, larger-than-life heroism, apocalyptic mayhem, and a damsel in distress sure doesn't hurt.
Rarely seen in acceptable condition, if at all, this unrestored 7.5 copy is colorful and attractive, a magnet for serious collectors. Deep rich greens and sun-bright yellows adorn this memorable cover, given its scarcity and condition we expect this to be a sleeper hit once the hammer drops.

Overstreet Guide 2018 VF- (7.5) value = $2,857.
