Pg. 2; Jack Kirby pencils, Vince Colletta inks, image size 15" x 10"
This page from Thor #154 has the Thunder God speeding off to check up on his beau, Sif, as she is convalescing in a hospital bed after surviving a battle between Thor and his brother, Loki. The story depicted in these panels shows the softer side of Jack Kirby, who was equally adept in his handling of cosmic battles and quiet moments such as this one. Vince Colletta's deft inks add to the gravity of this emotional page. This break in the action gives readers a moment to catch their breath and it's passages like this one that helped bond Marvel fans to their favorite heroes, showing their vulnerabilities thereby drawing us deeper into their tales of heroism.

Jack Kirby pencils, Vince Colletta inks, signed by Stan Lee; image size 10" x 15.5"
RAGNAROK! "We know each other. He's a friend from work"
Ragnarok, according to Norse Mythology, is basically the end times, akin to Revelations in the bible. It involves the deaths of many of the gods above, while natural disasters wipe out the Earth below leading to rebirth once the devastation has concluded. The cover of Thor #157 takes on the remarkable mission of portraying the mayhem of an apocalyptic event, here rendered by none other than the "King" himself, Jack Kirby. The epic themes of the Thor series gave Kirby the freedom to go above and beyond the scope of many of his other Silver Age creations, employing more grandiose flourishes, the title allowed Kirby to grow as an illustrator and sharpen his abilities far beyond those of mere mortals.

The action on this cover shows Thor being crushed in the gigantic claw of Mangog, a creature that draws his power from hatred, chaos, and destruction, and, as is evident on this cover, there is plenty of fuel on which the demonic monster can feed. Many of Kirby's Thor covers tend to keep the God of Thunder off the center of the page and away from the majority of the action. Nobody really knows why the artist would shy away from making the main character dominant on his own covers, but this issue is an important exception. Thor is featured in full, right dab smack in the middle of this magnificent piece of art.

Jack Kirby art is always a solid investment and a huge point of interest in our auctions. When you add in the connection between this cover and the blockbuster film "Thor: Ragnarok" this piece will surely draw plenty of attention before the hammer drops, and we are not talking about Mjolnir here folks.

Pg. 31; Sal Buscema pencils (breakdowns), Vince Colletta inks(finished art); image size 10" x 14"
The piece features bombastic action brought to you by Sal Buscema and Vince Colleta. This is an action packed interior page featuring the not so well-known Marvel character Eric Koenig. Though, keen followers of the Marvel universe will know that this unsung player has his own portrayal by the very well-known, self-proclaimed comic book nerd, Patton Oswald, on the small screen television series Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.

Pencils Gil Kane; Inks Vince Collettta and Jon Costa; Image Size 10" 15"
1st Appearance of Namora since the Golde Age
A truly dynamic cover by the late, great Gil Kane. Kane was one of the most prolific cover artists of the Silver and Bronze Age of comics and this cover shows us exactly why! The cover for Sub-Mariner's 50th issue features the Prince of Atlantis battling 3 crab-men as his cousin Namora lies encased under glass in a trance. Kane s detailed musculature and anatomy truly show Subby s struggle to overcome his adversaries. It should be noted this is Namora s first appearance since the Golden Age.
