Pgs. 4, 5, 8 - 11; Don Heck pencils and inks; from the story "Trapped by the Red Barbarian"; art on each pg measures approx. 12.5" x 18.5"
This set of pages comes from the time period when the Marvel Universe was at its most fertile, with Stan Lee and his stable of amazing artists virtually exploding with the amazing new ideas that would turn the publisher into the powerhouse of pop culture that it is today. Original comic art from the birth of the Marvel Age is some of the most sought after in the collecting hobby, and pages from the earliest appearances of iconic characters are among the most valuable in the marketplace.

This collection of pages 4-9 from Tales of Suspense #42 represents half of the tale Trapped by the Red Barbarian, the fourth-ever appearance of Iron Man, drawn to classic perfection by the influential and underrated Don Heck. Check out the awesome transformation panels on page four, which shows Stark s famous attaché case containing the iconic suit for the first time. Page five s first panel bring the tragic events of 9/11 to mind, and may also feature the first assault with a ham in the history of comics. The Actor meets the Red Barbarian in pages 6 & 7, where the mimic shows the Cold War villain his ability to impersonate Tony Stark, a disguise he employs to infiltrate Stark Industries and uncover some of the secrets of Iron Man, particularly, his secret identity. On page 9 the Actor flies off in Stark s jet as he leaves his underlings behind to ambush the real Tony Stark.

A collection of continuous pages from a classic early Silver Age Marvel book is not an item that shows up on the market often, and these remarkable Don Heck panels are an important piece of Iron Man s history, and comic book history overall, and we expect to see a lot of attention focused on this impressive example of original comic art from the halcyon years of the House of Ideas.

1st Superman by Siegel and Shuster
Highest Graded
The most important comic book in history, this book stands as the introduction of the archetype for all other heroes to come as Superman transcends comics and pop culture as an icon of truth, justice, and the American way! Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman is quite possibly the most recognizable fictional character in the world. The brainchild of two struggling sci-fi fans from the Rust Belt, the Man of Steel became an instant icon to Depression-era readers and transformed into a symbol of American spirit and spunk during the brutal days of WWII. Since then, he has endured as both a beloved character and an embodiment of hope and vigor, making this first appearance not just a piece of comics' history, but American history as well.

4th Superman cvr, classic Joe Shuster train cvr; cf is ad for Superman #1
Highest Graded
Note the centerfold ad: barely a year after his debut, the Man of Steel had become such an undeniable sensation that National has decided to capitalize on his fame by giving him his own solo title. Not that they're pulling him from Action Comics, mind you -- in fact, they're putting him on the cover of the comic with increasing frequency, no longer relying on repurposed covers from their other anthology titles and tried-and-true pulp-style covers. Superman is clearly here to stay, and it is announced with this legendary Shuster cover, a fine example of the strong, solidly built imagery that typified these early, more muscular adventures of the incredibly popular hero. Not only notable for the announcement of the character's upcoming solo series, this issue also boasts the debut of Superman's first real arch-nemesis, the Ultra-Humanite. Clearly inspired by villains from Saturday serials and Republic B-thrillers, this wheelchair-bound mad genius proves a cunning rival for our super-protagonist, in a debut appearance so thickly plotted and full of constant cliffhangers it practically bursts at the seams (and may have been a repurposed set of daily strips, as with the first few Action Superman appearances). A truly historic issue no matter which way you slice it, and, as with so many of these early Action issues, extremely rare.

Overstreet Guide 2019 NM- (9.2) value = $190,000.

Superman without S on chest cvr
The iconic image of Superman tearing a bank vault's door off was showcased here and later immortalized by Henry Cavill in the movie Man of Steel. It is not difficult to see why this issue has become one of the most sought after of the early Action Comics. The image of Superman performing a feat of otherworldly strength in front of a group of amazed bystanders is very reminiscent of the cover of Action Comics #1. Simon and Shuster's character touched something at the very core of Americans who were seeking a hero to help lift them out of the grim reality of the Great Depression. In what is a rarity for any Golden Age Superman cover, Big Blue's "S" symbol is not emblazoned upon his chest.
This book could be un-restored. Signed by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel!

Joe Shuster cvr/art; 1st app. of Lex Luthor; 1st mention of Daily Planet
Just as Sherlock had Moriarty, so does Superman have his Alexei "Lex" Luthor, the template for all super-nemeses to follow, and arguably one of the best-known literary creations of the 20th Century in his own right. Initially a standard evil-genius-with-a-death-ray stereotype, developed by Siegel and Shuster for one of the anti-war potboilers for which the series was first known, he quickly gained a popularity and style all his own, and flourished into one of the all-time great comic baddies. The first appearance of the character is among the rarest of Golden Age keys.
