Edgar Church / Mile High Copy
Highest GradedHillman Comics was a periodical publisher that decided to jump into the fray in the Golden Age and get in on the comic book action that was sweeping newsstands nationwide. Mainly known for the Airboy comic, Hillman also put out Victory Comics to take advantage of the patriotic fervor that exploded across the US upon the country’s entrance into WWII. The main protagonist was the Conqueror, who donned a red, white, and blue uniform and swung into battle against the Axis forces, setting his sights squarely on the ultimate goal of bringing down Hitler himself. The series would only last for four issues, this being the final entry in the run, and the book hewed closely to the well-established anthology format of the Golden Age. While all wartime comics are in and of themselves interesting and important collectibles, the short run on Victory Comics is known for being particularly hard to find, and therefore very desirable to collectors of the genre. This book is exceedingly rare, there are only eight copies on the census, with this Mile High pedigree copy being far and away the highest graded, as many Edgar Church copies tend to be, especially when it comes to the rarest of Golden Age comics. This issue bears all of the distinguishing characteristics of the pedigree, amazing bright colors, uncanny, solid construction, and the basic appeal of a newly minted comic, generations after publication. It is not likely that another copy will appear at market soon, and none will be in such stellar condition, if you are in the market for this book, this is the copy you want, hands down.
