Highest GradedSteel Sterling takes a play from the Superman playbook and uses vehicular fortitude to thwart a prison break. Golden Age hero covers, especially from the minors like MLJ, are usually pretty surreal and hectic, and this high-powered image is no exception. Only two issues in and MLJ pretty much had their pattern set for the pre-Archie period, with atmospheric art, crude but effective storytelling, and no end of ambition and spunk.Zip Comics #2 is an incredibly rare issue, there are only 17 copies registered on the CGC boards, and this Mile High pedigree copy is, you guessed it, the single highest-graded example known to the hobby. Much has been written concerning the particular beauty and incredible preservation of the Edgar Church collection, and this book falls in line with all the hype. As you can see for yourself, this 9.6 copy is immaculate, surviving 82 years of existence with nary a scratch or stain, for fans of Golden Age hero books this is an intoxicating temptation. Coming near the end of the auction, bidders of a certain stripe better save some cash to compete for this bright, sturdy, and highly desirable comic, and the old-school CGC label serves as an added bonus for the discerning collector.
