This iconic comic remains the Silver Age equivalent of Action Comics #1 as both a cultural artifact and a great investment for collectors. Jack Kirby ushered in the historic first appearance of Spider-Man on the classic cover; Steve Ditko took over the interior art as he worked with co-creator Stan Lee on this legendary debut. The story also set up the radical new concept of a neurotic Everyman behind the hero's mask All of this made for a timeless collectible that's kept Spider-Man (and his very human alter-ego) swinging for over 60 years as one of the most iconic and collectible characters in comics.

Copies of Amazing Fantasy #15 in decent condition are exceedingly rare since the incredible popularity of Spidey saw kids reading, re-reading, and trading his issues over and over, leaving many comics dull and drab. The low-quality paper the struggling Marvel Comics was using at the time didn’t help things either. Boasting striking colors and exceptional preservation, this is a solid, handsome copy of the very first appearance of Spider-Man. We often get lower-grade examples offered to us, but smart collectors hold out for copies like this one because they know they are rare and increase in value for years to come. Always a strong investment with plenty of upside, mid-grade copies like this are great for serious collectors. No Spider-Man collection is complete without it. Expect a bidding frenzy over this top-ten book!

Overstreet Guide 2020 FN- (5.5) value = $31,675.

Artist Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
