Dan Zolnerowich cvr; 1st Lost World (11/42)
The creative minds over at Fiction House really knew what they were doing when they started Planet Comics, they hired some of the best cover artists around, whose work would impress for the entire run of the title, producing some of the most memorable covers of the period, as can be seen by the masterful work by Dan Zolnerowich on issue #21. Additionally, they kept their product at a certain level of quality inside the book, while many anthology titles of the Golden Age were a mishmash of skilled artists and rank amateurs, Planet Comics never slipped into the practice of publishing anything they could get their hands on, relying instead on proven draftsmen to sustain a high quality of art throughout the book. The final piece to the puzzle though was the obvious mandate that each and every story, and cover, must have a beautiful woman in the mix, sometimes as the main protagonist and sometimes as arm candy for a male hero, but it seems as though very few stories ever got printed without a gorgeous gal at front and center to appeal to both young boys and older sci-fi aficionados alike, and it was a winning formula, as Planet Comics is still considered one of the finest genre comics of the Golden Age, and they have the sales to prove it, even as hero books began overtaking the marketplace Planet would hold its own in an overcrowded field.
