DESCRIPTION
John Romita Jr. pencils/John Byrne inks; cover; 1990; image size 10" x 15"the unusual pairing of John Romita Jr. with John Byrne inks highlights this great Iron Man cover, originally intended for an issue of the main Iron Man title, used as a cover for Marvel Age. Old shellhead broods while Tony Stark battles his own armor in this cover promoting Iron Man's Armor Wars II. Byrne's inks enhance and at the same time retain the uniqueness of Romita Jr.'s pencils, with the background pencils left untouched tying the whole image together. A wonderful piece. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition. Initialed by Romita Jr. and Byrne.
There is a note form Byrne that has been erased but is still partially legible in the UPC box.

John Byrne is one of the most storied creators in the history of comics. Beginning his career at Charlton he quickly moved over to Marvel Comics where he established himself early on as a workhorse and fan favorite, he would draw early appearances of Iron Fist before landing the gig working with Chris Claremont on X-Men. Claremont and Byrne would create several of the most memorable storylines in the history of the X-Men, their Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past stories have been adapted into three feature films. Byrne would convince Claremont to not kill Wolverine, proving to be one of the most lucrative decisions in Marvel's history, he would also introduce Kitty Pryde and Alpha Flight during this time. After his work on X-Men, Byrne would have a short run on The Avengers before launching his second classic comic run, this time on Marvel's first family The Fantastic Four, writing and drawing the title for five years. Byrne would leave Marvel for DC in the mid 1980s where he was tasked with revamping their flagship Superman titles, he would draw two Superman titles a month while writing a third. After two years at DC, Byrne returned to Marvel where he would create memorable stints on She-Hulk, Namor The Sub-Mariner, and Iron Man. In the 90's Byrne would work on several creator owner titles at Dark Horse, including his Next Men (which would introduce Mike Mignola's Hellboy), Babe and Danger Unlimited. In the years that followed Byrne would create many more books, often working on titles that inspired him as a boy including a revamp of Jack Kirby's Fourth World and DC's Doom Patrol and The Demon.
John Salvatore Romita, professionally known as John Romita Jr. is an American comics artist best known for his extensive work for Marvel Comics from the 1970s to the 2010s. He is the son of award-winning artist John Romita Sr. Romita's early popularity began with his run on Iron Man with writer David Michelinie and artist Bob Layton which began in 1978. In the early 1980s, he had his first regular run on the series The Amazing Spider-Man and also was the artist for the launch of the Dazzler series. From 1983 to 1986 he had a run on the Uncanny X-Men with Dan Green and author Chris Claremont. From 1988 to 1990, Romita had an extended stint on Daredevil. He worked on a host of Marvel titles during the 1990s, including a return to Iron Man for the second "Armor Wars" story arc, written by John Byrne; The Punisher War Zone;[18] the Cable miniseries;[19] and the Punisher/Batman crossover. In 2006, Romita collaborated with writer Neil Gaiman on a seven-issue miniseries reinterpretation of Jack Kirby's characters the Eternals. In 2014 Romita Jr. became the penciller of the DC Comics flagship title Superman, starting with issue #32, in collaboration with writer Geoff Johns.
