DESCRIPTION
Mel Keefer pencils and inks; 5/3/1954 daily strip; image size 19" x 6"

Ladies and gentlemen: the story you are about to hear is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Created in collaboration with creator Jack Webb, the Dragnet comic strip (1953-55) was a spin off of the popular television show which ran from 1951-59 with a resurgence from 1967-70. With it's stories of Los Angeles detective Joe Friday, the series, and the comic strip, drew its inspiration from real life crimes providing a level of authenticity that was lacking in other similar stories of the time. The comic strip, while short lived, captured that same feeling with artistry that was comparable to some of the best crime and detective strips. This strip is from Monday May 3rd, 1954 (the strip does not have the copyright information, but because we have five consecutive strips we were able to identify the year).Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition. Signed by Keefer.

See our other listings for the rest of the strips from the week of May 3-7, 1954
