If you are even mildly familiar with the Golden Age of comics, especially the wartime books, then you should be aware of the undisputed king of all WWII comic book covers, the incredible Alex Schomburg. USA Comics #13 features a crazy Captain America cover that shows Cap and his sidekick Bucky destroying a Japanese pillbox with a
Bulldozer, crushing the Axis soldiers within. Their screams of pain and terror are a perfect counterbalance to the crazed glee Cap and Bucky are exhibiting as they roll over the competition. This is just one of the seemingly endless parade of classic and memorable Schomburg covers that festooned newsstands in the 1940s. Each is a classic and each is a highly prized investment collectible.
This comic is exceedingly rare, as there are only 37 copies listed on the census, of which only 28 are Universal condition, and this 9.0 is one-of-two second-highest graded copies known, with only two 9.6s grading higher. Schomburg’s chaotic cover classic retains all of the punch it had on the day it was printed, with bright colors, sharp corners, and a sturdy spine, this book is poised to be a sleeper lot in Event Auction #53.
