Event Auction Highlight:
Original Owner Golden Age Comics plus Late Additions

Pep Comics 22

A collection of rare and valuable Golden Age comics, that were kept in the same family for generations, will now find new homes in our current Event Auction. The consignor recently related the tale of the collection’s provenance.

“My great-grandfather, Hjalmar, who was born in 1900, bought these comics off New York City newsstands when they originally came out,” he explained. “He was a police officer in the Bronx until his retirement to Oregon to live with his daughter, my grandma, who inherited the collection. My grandma never said a word about the comics, which were then handed down to my mother. The comics ended up stored in my parent’s garage and over at my sister’s house. I just happened to discover them and began researching their value, having promised to split the proceeds of the sale with my sister, and was more than pleasantly surprised to find I had stumbled upon a fairly significant find.”

This collection contains a spread of great Golden Age classics, but the cream of the crop is the extremely rare first appearance of Archie Andrews in Pep Comics #22 CGC 5.0, other standouts in this set include: Blue Beetle #17 CGC 6.5, Captain Battle #5 CGC 5.0, Exciting Comics #11 CGC 6.5, Exciting Comics #17 CGC 8.0, Fighting Yank #1 CGC 5.5, Flash Comics #33 CGC 8.0, Hit Comics #11 CGC 5.5, Kid Komics #1 CGC 4.0, Pioneer Picture Stories #6 CGC 5.5, Planet Comics #28 CGC 7.5, Red Dragon Comics #6 CGC 8.0, Sensation Comics #14 CGC 8.0 (1 of 1), Top Notch Comics #25 CGC 6.0, and much more.

“It’s lucky that I came home to visit from China when I did, as I believe my father was preparing to donate these comics, or possibly just throw them away,” the consignor concluded. Our hobby is extremely fortunate that the consignor recovered these rarities and is now making them available to bidders.

Collectors and investors note: Besides this extraordinary find, collectors will discover several investment-worthy late additions that made it in just before the auction deadline: Amazing Spider-Man #121 CGC 9.8, Amazing Spider-Man #129 CGC 9.6, Avengers #58 CGC 9.8, Conan the Barbarian #1 CGC 9.8, Detective Comics #225 CGC 6.0, Fantastic Four #2 CBCS 8.5 Stan Lee Signature, Ms. Marvel #1 CGC 9.8, NYX #3 CGC 9.8, X-men #101 CGC 9.8
