Moondog's Dr. Fate Collection

Amazing Fantasy #15 remains the Silver Age equivalent of Action Comics #1 as both a cultural artifact and an important investment for collectors. Jack Kirby ushered in Spider-Man’s first appearance with one of the comics biz most enduring classic covers; Steve Ditko took over the interior art while working with co-creator Stan Lee on this legendary debut. The story also shook up the comics industry with the premise of a neurotic Everyman gifted with extraordinary powers, plus a tragic backstory fueled by guilt over the death of Uncle Ben. All of this innovation continues to make for a timeless collectible that's kept Spider-Man (and Peter Parker) swinging for over 60 years as one of the most iconic and collectible characters in comics.

The iconic phrase "With great power, comes great responsibility" was first coined in Amazing Fantasy 15. Though this seminal issue is best known for introducing Spiderman to the Marvel Universe, it was also groundbreaking for its introduction of the non-typical superhero. Stan Lee's vision of a young, awkward, unpopular teenager's maturation into an iconic defender of justice was brought to life and left the idea of the "hero story" effected evermore.

If you are looking for an unrestored, mid-grade copy of Amazing Fantasy 15 that presents better than the assigned grade and is completely free of tape, glue and pencil marks, you re in luck. This 5.0 example boasts a remarkably "clean" cover with fresh red inks that make it appear as though it was one of the first to hit the printing-press. Over 72% of all blue label copies grade below this one and the supple OFF-WHITE to WHITE pages make this a particularly attractive example for collectors seeking to obtain a solid, attractive copy.

Artist Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
