CGC Video Games, Collectibles Authentication Guaranty (CAG), and ComicConnect are pleased to present the Nicholas Membrez-Weiler Collection.
This extraordinary assortment consists of 42 items related to Nicholas Membrez-Weiler’s participation in the 1990 Nintendo World Championships (NWC), the first major esports event in the United States. Nintendo of America hosted the tournament, which stopped at 29 cities across the country and culminated in the World Championship at Universal Studios Hollywood, where a half-million people attended the competition. Highlights of this collection include a Grey Cartridge copy of Nintendo World Championships 1990, a custom tombstone plaque presented to Nicholas by Nintendo, and the Seattle “11 and Under” Semi-Finals Championship cup.
CGC Video Games and CAG were selected to certify the Nicholas Membrez-Weiler Collection. This pedigree contains one of the largest selections of originally owned Nintendo World Championship material known. Each item represents a vital moment in video game and pop culture history. The success that Nicholas and other NWC finalists enjoyed was chronicled in newspapers, magazines, and on television. It was those legendary competitions that helped legitimize the passion and desire of gamers for esports and allowed the pursuit to blossom into a permanent fixture of American and international culture.
