But he just got here! Oh, well, alright then, never mind. Apparently, only one issue into the run of Marvel's spanking-new team title, the Hulk, never one for deep contemplation or soul-searching, simply up and walks out the door, making it instantly apparent to readers that this new and brave Marvel Universe would be anything but predictable. Stan Lee, doggedly steering the new hero ship of the previously struggling publisher, would continually challenge himself and his readers with odd twists, sudden character shifts, role reversals, anything to keep things fresh and sales up, so it's no real surprise. What's cunning and revealing is how Lee was quietly using his audience's identification with the misunderstood brute to coax them into accepting the return of one of the company's great names of the past, Captain America, as the hero team's search for their wayward green teammate would eventually lead to the discovery of the first Avenger's frozen form. With the Marvel movie franchise reaching new heights of success with each subsequent release, early issues such as this grow more and more popular and coveted year by year.
If any new buyers or collectors enter the market and ask about no-brainer investments, we invariably point to books like this -- high-grade, historic, Silver Age Marvels. You can't go wrong with a book like this, in incredible condition, and in increasing demand from long-time collectors and hungry new investment buyers. In recent auctions, we've seen top-notch Marvel issues such as this blow past estimates, and can't emphasize enough how important it is for bidders to get in early and bid aggressively to catch grade-A material like this.

Artist Information

Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
