The Arrow begins! classic cover by Lubbers (10/40)The Arrow can lay claim to the honor of being the first superhero to rely on archery as their main power or skill, and in doing so, influencing some of the great bowmen in comicdom, such as the Green Arrow and Hawkeye. First appearing in Centaur's Funny Pages anthology, the Arrow garnered enough of a fan base to be awarded his own book, which, unfortunately, only ran for three issues. The crimson-clad bullseye sharpshooter would go on to find new life in the public domain and appear in rebooted form over the years, but his first self-titled book is a true cult collectible.

Lubbers was an accomplished Big Band trombonist who studied art by day and played music at night five days a week, He started working in comics at Centaur, and after the war he began focusing on strip art, where he was known for his work on Tarzan, The Saint and Secret Agent X-9, he ended up at Marvel in the 70s before retiring.
