Adam Hughes pencils and inks; image size 13.5" x 22"Holy Original Bat Art! When DC editor Julius "Julie" Schwartz passed away in 2004, the renowned publishing house decided to put out a collection of eight one-shot comics to memorialize the beloved progenitor of the Silver Age. This is the beautifully illustrated cover of one of these popular issues, rendered with great skill by artist Adam Hughes, on a scale much larger than typical cover art, the book features satires of two Schwartz-commissioned Batman stories from the 50s and 60s, which pay tribute to Julie and his particular sense of humor. Legend has it, Schwartz was known for ordering stories based on cover art, and directing writers to craft tales to fit the proposed concepts, flipping the usual industry conventions on their head.
This is a special piece that honors a legendary figure in the comic world, while simultaneously paying homage to the classic Batman #183 cover by Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella.
