RARE; Dan Hastings beginsPublished in 1937, Star Comics was one of the early anthologies put out by Centaur. The W.C. Brigham cover on issue #1 shows a jester sitting on top of the world, blowing colored bubbles to a menagerie of tots dancing about while holding hands. This euphoric image was typical of the very earliest of comic books, appealing to children with their straightforward graphics and simplistic themes. Acting as a repository for a variety of short stories and repurposed comic strips these books set the stage for what was to come soon after, an explosion of pop culture iconography that thrives into the modern day.Star Comics #1 is a rare publication, not many copies survive in any condition, this restored copy retains its bright color scheme, and the structural integrity of the comic is sound. The oversized design comes from the time period before publishers collectively decided what dimensions a comic book would be, making this an intriguing window into the past, and the very foundations of the industry we all know and love today.
