While the first appearance of the Clock lurks within Funny Pages #6, the cover is an example of the rough, genial barnyard slapstick readers expected from early comics, and it took some time for the pulp / adventure heroes to take center stage on the series' covers. As the cover states, this comic is "More Fun than a Sideshow," and a peek at the content proves that boast to be true, page after page is filled to the brim with all sorts of treats, everything from jungle adventure, to western, to anthropomorphic animals, and so on, pack this book from cover to cover. Its no wonder the earliest comics immediately took hold with consumers, as there was nowhere to receive such a plethora of entertainment at such a low price, and you could even carry them around in your back pocket if you needed some cheap thrills in a pinch.
Professionally restored comics were once reviled, considered somewhat tainted, and there was no real market for them. But nowadays collectors have grown to understand there are only so many of these rarities to go around, and although these books are not in their original condition, they look as good as new, with bright colors, clean pages, and sturdy covers, one could certainly do worse than bringing home this revitalized treasure from a bygone era.
