The Arrow begins! classic cover by Lubbers (10/40)The Arrow can lay claim to the honor of being the first superhero to rely on archery as their main power or skill, and in doing so, influencing some of the great bowmen in comicdom, such as the Green Arrow and Hawkeye. First appearing in Centaur's Funny Pages anthology, the Arrow garnered enough of a fan base to be awarded his own book, which, unfortunately, only ran for three issues. The crimson-clad bullseye sharpshooter would go on to find new life in the public domain and appear in rebooted form over the years, but his first self-titled book is a true cult collectible.The Bob Lubbers illustration on this restored book is adorned with hot reds and cool interior shades. Slight color breaks and rounded edges are the only visible signs of wear, and the bold action featured on the cover sports some serious eye appeal. Notch your missiles, dear bidders, and take aim at this wonderful collectible comic from the good old days of four-color adventure.

Lubbers was an accomplished Big Band trombonist who studied art by day and played music at night five days a week, He started working in comics at Centaur, and after the war he began focusing on strip art, where he was known for his work on Tarzan, The Saint and Secret Agent X-9, he ended up at Marvel in the 70s before retiring.
