Well, now, this is a charmer, isn't it? You wonder sometimes how publishers like EC and, in this case, Gilmor, thought they could get away with pushing the envelope with their increasingly gory, gruesome, stomach-churning covers without repercussions. If you were a parent in early 1953 and saw little Johnny or Mary with this sickie sticking out of their back pocket, you'd probably be on the horn to your local congressman. Then again, if you were little Johnny or Mary, you'd hock your sneakers for the money required to buy five of them, 'cause, seriously, look at this thing!
Pre-code horror comics enjoyed a huge market resurgence in the mid-90s due to the success of HBO's EC-based Tales From the Crypt, and have been among vintage collectors' most treasured genres ever since.
