classic Shelly Moldoff Green Lantern cover; 2nd app of Red TornadoMartin Nodell was driven to create a superhero with powers granted by a magic ring that needed to be recharged with a magic lantern. With some inspiration from Greek and Norse mythology for his colorful costume, the Green Lantern was born. The character would go on to become one of the founding members of the Justice Society, quite possibly the world's first superhero team, with a shared universe among the other members. He would be reborn in 1959 as Hal Jordan, test pilot, a more science-fiction inspired character, but, Alan Scott would make a comeback to the DC Universe just a couple of years later.
