A 15% BUYER'S PREMIUM WILL BE ADDED TO THIS ITEM AT CONCLUSION OF THE AUCTION white pages; signed by Kevin Eastman & Peter A. Laird on interior cover in pen Kevin Eastman/Peter Laird cover/art; Origin & 1st app of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Splinter, & Shredder; Wraparound cover. Highest GradedAnybody who grew up in the 1980s understands the significance of this comic book. It is the Action #1, the Showcase #4, and Amazing Fantasy #15 of the 80s. Self-published by scrappy creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, this book contains the origin stories of the Ninja Turtles and the Splinter, as well as the introduction of Shredder, and the Foot. The moody cover, an homage to Frank Miller's Ronin mini-series, features deep blacks and bloody reds with muscular cross-hatched renditions of our heroes standing ready against the forces of evil. Eastman and Laird's characters were soon to be toned down and made more child-friendly, but in these early books, they pulled no punches on the way to devouring their beloved pizza pies.
A Copper Age classic, not many comics can be referred to as that, but this particular issue, one which gave rise to numerous films, cartoons, video games and the like, has truly earned that accolade. This book is notoriously difficult to find in such good condition, the black motif displays creases and dimples as easily as light covers show dirt and stains. With the latest movie iteration of TMNT released upon the world, the time is nigh to grab your own copy before the price soars once again.
This copy of TMNT is one of the highest-graded signed copies at NM+, the signatures on the interior are not witnessed by CGC, but rest assured this comic is signed by Eastman & Laird and is in amazing condition. When it comes to Copper Age comics, this is pretty much the big dog in the room, a book that is continually going up in value and desirability. The razor-sharp corners and rigid spine are exemplary, and the black background shows no signs of wear and tear. This comic is a huge target for investment collectors, and the creator’s autographs just add to the overall appeal. A 9.8 first printing copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, signed by Eastman & Laird, sold for $192,000 in June 2022.
Overstreet Guide 2022 NM- (9.2) value = $20,000.
