Alex Schomburg cvr featuring Hitler, Goering & Goebbels; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 7 (CBI)

Marvel Mystery Comics #63 is a shining example of why Golden Age collectors consider Alex Schomburg to be the best in the business. Not only does this cover feature The Human Torch and Toro going to battle with a variety of Axis soldiers, but there are also comical caricatures of Goring, Goebbels, and Adolf Hitler running from the chaos like a bunch of cowardly clowns. The image is prescient, as well. This issue hit the stands in February of 1945. By the actual cover date of April 1945, Hitler would be dead, Goebbels would be preparing his own suicide, and Goring would be heading to the Nuremberg Trials.

It's well known in the Golden Age collecting community that books featuring the visage of der Fuhrer or his underlings remain in hot demand, and this classic wartime book is a shining example. This issue also offers "The Horror of the Catwoman," in which the Angel takes on a female jewel thief and her gang — just a month after Captain America went through pretty much the same adventure with a villainess called "The Cat Woman" in his own book.

This stunning 9.4 copy of Marvel Mystery Comics #63 sits at the top of the CGC Census, and is one of only 3 copies graded over 9.0. The cover boasts resplendent colors, bright reds, cool blues, and deep greens; the four-color printing process is really pushed to the limits on this Schomburg masterpiece. The book has a solid spine, nice corners, and a very strong eye appeal overall.
