Chris Marrinan pencils/Erik Larsen inks; Savage/Dragon Destroyer Duck #1 Original Full Splash – Page 3 (Image Comics, 1996); image size 10" x 15"
From the Modern Age of Marvel Comics – Original comic art of “Savage Dragon” as he cruises through the city streets of Chicago.”

Erik Larsen’s Fightin’ Fin-Head teams up with Steve Gerber’s Marauding Mallard to quell a post-modern mob war in the streets of Chicago. Plus, the return of Gregory Brainard and the Industrial Accidents! Super Freak Self-Esteem training! Plus, a surprise cameo by a world-famous web head and Cleveland’s favorite fowl! Written by Steve Gerber.

Savage Dragon cruising the streets of Chicago. Published in November 1996 as the Full Splash Page to the story. Extraordinary! Technically inked by Larsen over pencils by Marrinan, Larsen's work is so overshadowing that it has all the trademark's of one of his pieces. Savage Dragon features front and center in this dynamic splash page. The art is accomplished in ink over graphite on Bristol board with Zip-A-Tone used to accent elements of the motorcycle. The art measures approximately 11 x 17 inches and is in excellent condition.

Artist Information

Erik Larsen is an American comic book artist, writer and publisher. He first gained critical acclaim for his work at Marvel Comics on the Amazing Spider-Man. In 1992, he and six other illustrators left Marvel to form Image Comics, where Larsen launched a series featuring a reworked version of Savage Dragon. This version was a massively muscled green amnesiac, who joined the Chicago police department after being discovered in a burning field. Initially debuting as a three-issue miniseries, the series met with enough success to justify a monthly series, launched in 1993. Savage Dragon is one of two original Image Comics titles still published (the other being Spawn) and the only one still written and drawn by its creator, making Savage Dragon – one of the longest running creator-owned superhero comic series of all-time. The character was also adapted into an animated series for USA Network in 1995.
