Hank Porter pencils; WWII insignia preliminary drawing; c. early 1940s image size 7.25" x 7.25"

This incredibly rare insigina preliminary drawing was created by Porter for the P-51 Mobile Training Unit #81 that served as a training facility for the US Air Force in India during the war. The insignia features a great image of Donald Duck serving as teacher for the recruits preparing for action. These drawings are incredibly rare, and serve as a historical artifact that even during wartime creativity and humor are important. Pencil on onionskin paper. Art is in very good condition, the edges are torn, but the image is intact and displays beautifully.

Artist Information

Hank Porter was a long time animator for Disney, including working on Snow White. He is most famous for the wartime insignia drawings he provided for the military. During WWII Disney artists created nearly 1300 insignia's for American troops fighting overseas.
