1967 printing (see below)
undervalued original Frazetta cover; rare in higher gradesLancer Books began reissuing Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian stories from the 1930s, and brought in Frank Frazetta to provide legendary cover art that stood out on the paperback racks. This cover ("Volume Three," although numbered "2" on the spine) would also later find a new audience as one of the Frazetta paintings used as album covers by the band Molly Hatchet--in this case, for 1980's BEATIN' THE ODDS. The series' success would give new life to the pulp hero, with L. Sprague De Camp writing new stories based on Howard's surviving notes. Copies of this popular series are rarely available in high grades.
