A year after the first appearance of Superman, the comic book industry continued to pump out anthologies filled with the raw and pulpy illustrated tales to which readers had grown accustomed. Adventure Comics #38 is a prime example of Golden Age dynamics. This issue features a wonderful cover by pulp artist John Richard Flanagan, plus contributions from Superman creators Jerry Seigel and Joe Shuster, as well as Gardner Fox and Bob Kane. This is an extremely rare book that almost never surfaces at auction.
As noted, this 8.0 issue of Adventure is exceptionally rare, with only 13 copies listed on the CGC Census — and only one copy graded higher. The book is typical of the outstanding quality of the Cosmic Aeroplane collection, which is one of the earliest recognized pedigrees in the hobby This Qualified copy is in impressive condition with strong colors retaining their impact 85 years later.
