Highest GradedDipping a toe into the horror genre this cover for Wonderworld Comics #19 shows The Flame doing battle with a sinister hooded monk while two captives are bound and gagged and trapped inside coffins, and there’s a mummy in the background for good measure. By relying on tropes and imagery often employed on the covers of pulps, the newly formed comic book industry helped move product by appealing to fans of an already established medium as Golden Age publishers would hire artists from the pulp houses in order to foster crossover success.
