1st appearance of the Punisher (Frank Castle); 1st app. of Jackal; COMIC BOOK IMPACT rating of 9 (CBI)
Amazing Spider-Man #129 sent Spider-Man swinging into the Bronze Age with the first appearance of the Punisher, whose brutal debut would lead to this book becoming one of the top key issues of the 1970s. (That same year would end with Wolverine making his first full appearance in Incredible Hulk #181.) Of course, there's even more historical significance with the issue offering the debut of the Jackal. The evil alter ego of biology professor Miles Warren will later become the main antagonist in the '90s Clone saga and the 2011 "Spider-Island" story line.
The Punisher, of course, has gone on to appear in multiple self-titled comic series, as well as three major-studio action films. Frank Miller also revived the character's original fan base when he brought the vigilante into his Daredevil title. More recently, the Punisher found renewed fame with a hit Netflix series. Jon Bernthal has since been confirmed to return in the Punisher role for Disney+'s hotly anticipated Daredevil: Born Again, as the Punisher remains one of fandom's most wanted!
