Jerry Siegel Letters
This large (11.5” x 9”) advertising brochure was published by 20th Century Fox for an international campaign promoting feature-film versions of the Superman series. The original five films each consisted of three episodes of Adventures of Superman edited together, with the productions playing foreign markets where the show had never aired. (The introductory text skipped “the American way” to have Superman fighting “a continuous battle for truth, justice, and humanity.”)
This Spanish-language marketing tool was targeted to countries in Central and South America, promoting Los Peligros de Superman (Superman’s Peril), Superman Vuelve a Volar (Superman Flies Again), Superman y el Demonio de la Selva (Superman and the Jungle Devil), Superman y la Policia Secreta (Superman and Scotland Yard), and Superman en el Destierro (Superman in Exile).
The Adventures cast had been called back at the end of the 1953 season to shoot short transitional scenes for the episodes within each film. These 77-minute features are considered to be lost films today, possibly due to music licensing and other contractual considerations — leaving the few remaining artifacts as true collectors’ items for Superman fans.
