Bob Lubbers pencils and inks; 5/13/1952 daily strip; image size 19" x 5.25"Great Tarzan daily by Lubbers, featuring Tarzan knocking a guy out and carrying his body through the Jungle. The Tarzan strip was founded on exceptional illustration, beginning with Hal Foster and Burne Hogarth, Lubbers carries that tradition well, with his clean drawing and excellent composition. This is a great example from Lubbers' peak period of the strip. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition. Signed by Lubbers and writer Dick Van Buren.
Artist Information
Lubbers was an accomplished Big Band trombonist who studied art by day and played music at night five days a week, He started working in comics at Centaur, and after the war he began focusing on strip art, where he was known for his work on Tarzan, The Saint and Secret Agent X-9, he ended up at Marvel in the 70s before retiring.
