Frank Hampson art; cover/Dan Dare page 1; 1952; image size 14.25" x 18.5"Rare and beautiful cover (which also served as page one) featuring Dan Dare, the classic British sci-fi action hero, created by Hampson. Often referred to as the British Buck Rogers, Dan Dare was one of the first stars of UK comics, his stories being often reprinted, as well as adapted for television and radio. Pen and ink. Art is in very good condition, there is light staining along the seams where the tiers are affixed.
The logo, header banner, and title box are all printed paste-up reproductions. All of the lettering is original.

Frank Hampson was a British illustrator. He is best known as the creator and artist of Dan Dare and other characters in the boys' comic, the Eagle, to which he contributed from 1950 to 1961.
