Jerry Siegel Letters

This letter from Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel (with original envelope postmarked Nov. 22, 1951) is an artifact from one of the most vicious feuds in comics history — as the embittered writer continued his poison-pen campaign to shame the National Publications (later DC) brass who'd bought the rights to Superman for $130 in 1938!

The final months of 1951 saw Siegel sending out stacks of mimeographed letters to National staffers that blasted their bosses as “selfish, greedy men” who had left Siegel "destitute." This one was likely one of the first to be read, with the included original envelope showing that it was sent to National Comics' Head Mail Clerk.
