Punch Comics #9 is an exceptionally collectible classic even amongst the several shocking covers commissioned by fearless publisher Harry Chesler. The pioneering comics magnate oversaw a stellar stable of Golden Age artists who'd frequently reference their own names within their work. Gus Ricca, however, really paid tribute to his fellow overworked artists with this classic cover. (In truth, Chesler was considered to be one of the better bosses of the era.) This book is also notable for the first appearances of Rocketman and Rocketgirl, as well as Spirit knock-off Master Key.
This 5.5 Punch Comics #9 offers some real...er, punch for the grade, with Gus Ricca's cover impressively intact. The depth of the blacks are also exceptionally solid after 80 years. This title is a typically rare Golden Age find from the Ruben Blades Collection, with only 25 copies in the CGC Census and only eight copies graded higher than 5.5.
