Alex Schomburg's classic cover for Suspense Comics #3 is a wild mix of multiple genres that remains as unforgettably sordid as when the comic hit the newsstands of 1944. (Unsurprisingly, the book is a regular presence in the Overstreet Price Guide list of the Top 100 Golden Age books.) Few would argue that this key issue offers Schomburg’s most infamous cover from the Golden Age, working in hooded Nazi Klansmen and hero charging in with a spear to save a bound damsel in distress. As a further testament to the industry's rampant talent of the time, the contents feature interior art by the legendary L.B. Cole and the grueling survival tale "83 Days on a Life-raft" (beloved enough by kids that many copies of Suspense #3 have the pages missing as the story was shared around the schoolyard).____________________________________________________
