Detective Comics #3 continued the pioneering comic book's success in turning on pulp fans to the joys of four-color artwork. The awesome prison-break cover art by Creig Flessel exhilarated readers of the era, and Detective boasted an outstanding two-fisted line-up of tough guys. This book featured the usual cast of detectives and adventurers like Speed Saunders, Bruce Nelson, Bart Regan, Buck Marshall, Slam Bradley, and Cosmo. the Phantom of Disguise.

Collectors also seek out Detective Comics #3 for the first appearance of Hope Hazard, G-Woman. This gorgeous blonde wasn't shy about getting ready to gun down bad guys. Hope gets plenty to do in "The Air-Mail Mystery," although the real mystery is what happened after the second part of this story went unpublished. Hope wasn't seen again until 1938's More Fun Comics #30, where she became a glamourous amateur sleuth.
