Fantastic Four #49 is both a classic comic and an enduring sci-fi masterpiece, as Marvel introduced the cosmic threat of Galactus — here making his first full appearance as the Devourer of Worlds, with a wild image jumping off the racks courtesy of Jack Kirby's cover. This book also offers the 2nd appearance of the Silver Surfer as Galactus' reluctant herald on his own way to Marvel stardom.
