Batman #2 doesn't waste any time becoming another vital artifact of the Golden Age, with the Joker still around after both his introduction and a secondary story in Batman #1. "The Joker Meets the Cat-Woman" also has Batman's beloved female villain debuting her new name after earlier turns as "The Cat." (That hyphen will be dropped in later issues.) Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson contribute a colorful classic cover, of course, which also signals the book's continuing change from Batman's pulp origins to a lighter tone.

These early issues are still packed with deliriously imaginative locales and no end to the action and mayhem. The Joker is perfectly happy to commit multiple homicides, and there's a frightening new villain (with a twist) in the maniacal thug Clubfoot. The third tale tosses in Batman battling African pygmies who are after an abducted giant in the tragic "Case of the Missing Link." This amazing early issue still pre-dates the Batmobile and other future pop-culture developments, making these early books vital collectibles as the legend of Batman continues to build!
