1st appearance of the Penguin (Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot); Jerry Robinson cvr/art, Bob Kane art

Detective Comics #58 marks a major milestone in the Batman mythos with the first appearance of the Penguin. Oswald Cobblepot made an impressively brutal debut, as well. In fact, recent fans will be surprised at how the character started as the same kind of scheming crime lord that's returned to the spotlight in the acclaimed big-screen The Batman, as well as Colin Farrell's hit follow-up on HBO with the Penguin series.

"One of the Most Perfect Frame-Ups" begins with Penguin pulling off his first Gotham City heist by swiping a valuable painting from an art museum. He brings his haul to the mysterious “Boss” of a crime ring, whom the Penguin will soon ventilate with an umbrella gun as part of taking over his operation. Eventually, the Dynamic Duo join in on the action and confront the rotund renegade, only to discover that the Penguin is a cunning nemesis capable of framing Batman for his gang's own crimes.

The Penguin would enter comic book lore as one of the most recognizable and popular of Batman’s enemies. The character's reputation as a ruthless criminal mastermind was also restored by the cultish success of the Gotham TV series, followed by Colin Farrell's success. This issue has never been hotter as a reliable investment, although collectors will note that the title has also always been sought after for Jerry Robinson's outstanding cover art.
_________________________________________________

He's not depicted on the cover of this important DC key, but this issue introduces one of Batman’s most formidable nemesis, the Penguin. Thanks to a masterful performance by Colin Farrell in Max’s The Penguin series, the popular villain is once again enjoying a moment in the sun, fueling interest in his key appearances, and there is no book more important than this premiere issue. This copy is in exceptional shape, presenting impressive eye appeal for its grade, there are only 125 copies of this book on the census overall, so Penguin fans take note, this is a special opportunity to pick up the first appearance of this iconic Batman villain. Of course, interest in this longtime fan favorite was recently revived by Colin Farrell's inspired work on both the big-screen The Batman and the HBO series The Penguin. Oswald is also expected to return to the big screen in the upcoming The Batman: Part II — which is just one of at least five Batman series and features currently in development.
