A 15% BUYER'S PREMIUM WILL BE ADDED TO THIS ITEM AT CONCLUSION OF THE AUCTION c/ow pages 1st comic appearance of The Shadow & Doc Savage; Rozen painted cover (3/40) Denver CopyShadow Comics #1 has the pulp publishers of Street & Smith bringing their popular hero to the comics even as The Shadow began to falter as syndicated newspaper strip. A lot of those daily strips — with Walter B. Gibson adapting from his books — would later be reprinted in this comic as it brought in a readership through 1941, and on through issue #101 in 1949. The Shadow's stalking of the comic racks begins here, though, featuring a striking cover painting from Jerome Rozen. Gibson didn't write these early stories, but this is still a vital cornerstone of the publishing industry looking to pulp stars to keep the comics selling. The Shadow brought along a friend, too, with Doc Savage (along with his pal Monk) making his own comics debut in the backing story alongside Iron Munro, dashing female detective Carrie Cashin, and (in his only appearance) Diamond Dick.
