Comic strip promotional booklet from the McClure Syndicate (circa 1939)
True North Collection
Created around the same time as Action Comics #7, "Superman: The Man of Tomorrow" was developed as a tool for salesmen to demonstrate Superman's potential success to prospective newspapers. This booklet features the first 30 strips of the "Superman" newspaper daily, each on a single page. There are also special promotional ads featuring rare Joe Shuster art, which McClure included for newspapers to use as ads promoting the arrival of the "Superman" strip.

This publication (measuring 13-7/8" x 3-3/4") aimed to establish a strong following for Superman before the launch of the first daily strip. The comic book contains the complete origin of Superman as originally conceived by Siegel and Shuster. These pages were created several months before Action Comics #1, with all the advertising material also created by Siegel and Shuster.

The copyright dates (interchanging 1938 and 1939) found at the base of most of the 30 daily strips within this comic were added specifically for printing purposes. These dates reflect the preparation of the dailies for photoshoot in late 1938, when the publication itself was created. Many images featured in "The Man of Tomorrow," including the front cover drawn by Joe Shuster (later used on Action Comics #7, published December 1938), were subsequently reused in other comic books. "Superman: The Man of Tomorrow" is considered one of the rarest and most historically significant Superman comic books ever created.
