Comic strip promotional booklet from the McClure Syndicate (circa 1939)
True North Collection
13-7/8" x 3-3/4" (30 pages). Issued by McClure Newspaper Syndicate in 1939 to promote the Superman daily comic strip in newspapers starting January 16, 1939.

Created around the same time as Action Comics #7, "Superman: The Man of Tomorrow" was developed as a tool for salesmen to demonstrate Superman's potential success to prospective newspapers. This publication aimed to establish a strong following for Superman before the launch of the first daily strip. The comic book contains previously unpublished advertising and the complete origin of Superman as originally conceived by Siegel and Shuster. These pages were created several months before Action Comics #1. All the advertising material was also created by Siegel and Shuster.

The copyright dates (interchanging 1938 and 1939) found at the base of most of the 30 daily strips within the comic were added specifically for printing purposes. These dates reflect the preparation of the dailies for photoshoot in late 1938, when the publication itself was created. Many images featured in "The Man of Tomorrow," including the front cover drawn by Joe Shuster (which was later used on Action Comics #7, published December 1938), were subsequently reused in other comic books. "Superman: The Man of Tomorrow" is considered one of the rarest and most historically significant Superman comic books ever created.
