A 15% BUYER'S PREMIUM WILL BE ADDED TO THIS ITEM AT CONCLUSION OF THE AUCTION John Buscema pencils and inks; page 11 w/prelim; 2001; image size 10" x 15"In 2001 legendary Marvel mastermind Stan Lee teamed up with the Distinguished Competition to reimagine some of their most enduring heroes. The centerpiece of this is surely Lee's take on Superman, the grandfather of all super-heroes. To do this Lee enlisted one of his most trusted collaborators, Big John Buscema, in one of his final projects before his death in 2002. The two reimagine Superman as Salden, an alien policeman, stranded on Earth where he becomes a hero looking to use his knowledge to advance technology. This page, full of action, shows Salden, not yet Superman, as he unknowingly careens towards Earth as he avenges the death of his wife. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition.
Also included is the full size preliminary drawing for the page. Signed by Buscema. Artist Information
'The Michelangelo of comics.' Buscema was one of the mainstays of Marvel Comics during its 1960s and 1970s heyday, best known for his run on the The Avengers and The Silver Surfer, and for over 200 stories featuring the sword-and-sorcery hero Conan the Barbarian. In addition, he penciled at least one issue of nearly every major Marvel title, including long runs on two of the company's top books, Fantastic Four and Thor.
