Syd Shores cvr; Everett art; 2nd Namora; Torch story; Comic Book Impact rating of 7 (CBI)The cover of Sub-Mariner Comics #23 boasts a classic Syd Shores illustration that shows Namor leaping out of the water to save a damsel-in-distress from a reptilian humanoid, a classic Golden Age image from the post-war period. Many superhero plotlines after WWII involved a variety of colorful criminals plotting major-league heists, which would require intervention from the stars of the era. This issue features two Subby tales of criminal intrigue, one involving the gold-crazed Hammerhead Shark, and the other, the silver-crazed, Spectacles. The Human Torch story in the book, sadly, has nothing to do with bronze but does stay true to the reptile motif presented on the cover.
