Kids were clamoring for Airboy Comics during World War II, as Hillman Publications cashed in on the costumed identity of young pilot Davy Nelson II. The character was the creation of legendary scribes Charles Biro and Dick Wood, originally working with artist Al Camy. Airboy would first find a home as the cover star of Air Fighters Comics #2, starting with the second issue in Nov. 1942. The Nazi-bashing star (assisted by his high-tech plane Birdie) would see the title change to Airboy Comics in 1945. Al Carny would later be replaced by Tony DiPreta and then Fred Kida before Ernie Schroeder closed out the series, while the backing stories featured talents like Jack Kirby & Joe Simon, Dan Barry, and Carmine Infantino.
