Flessel Sandman cover
Edgar Church / Mile High Copy
Highest Graded
Creig Flessel’s excellent cover for Adventure Comics #51 shows Sandman firing his gas gun at a group of what appear to be corrupt politicians, who are obviously up to no good. It was pulpy scenarios like this one that drew readers to newsstands to plunk down a shiny dime and find out what else this seductive issue had in store. The enchanting power of Golden Age comics still holds sway over collectors of today who can’t resist the bright four-color action presented in these captivating tomes of yesteryear. This issue also features a classic Hour-Man story along with the requisite anthology potboilers that made the era so much fun.

There are just over 35 copies of this comic on the census, making this an incredibly rare treat for those looking for this book, and there will undoubtedly be some intense bidding to bring this baby home. This Mile High pedigree copy is the standalone highest graded example of Adventure Comics #51, Edgar Church copies are renowned throughout the collecting market, but this issue is exceptional even for that storied pedigree. The colors are sumptuous, the construction is rock solid, and the overall eye appeal is truly something to behold. Copies of this issue do not appear at auction often, so if you are in the market for this book, now’s your chance, don’t miss out.
